Bunya – Community Exhibition at Wandin’in Arts Space, Eumundi QLD, December 2017. Presented and curated by Tree Place
My objective when creating this series was to use the form and shape of the lone Bunya pine to create painterly pieces that would hang in unison. The solitary Bunya trees dotted around the sunshine coast hinterland have always stood out to me as a personal reminder that to be alone does equal loneliness, and that great strength can be found and built on a foundation of solitude.
I have used the strong and resilient Bunya pine as a metaphor for this idea and way of being. In terms of my creative practice, from being amongst nature collecting images to studio work with ink painting and digital processes, solitude is the only way I can work with complete absorption. In this way the work is part of the larger process of connection with my inner being; the part that responds and evolves through silent contemplation with the natural world around me.
